About Sacred Bones
Formed in 2017 at the Guildhall School of Music and Drama, Sacred Bones won the inaugural Brian Nisbet Early Music Competition at their first public performance. They are rapidly establishing a reputation as an exciting new force in the UK’s early music scene, after several acclaimed performances in their opening season.
With their unique combination of solo voices and ancient winds, their repertoire encompasses music from the 12th to the 17th centuries, including sacred choral music, consort song, and chant. During this period, voices and instruments were often interchangeable, and parts were allocated according to the available forces. Sacred Bones continues this tradition, mixing scholarly accuracy with creative freedom: frequently working from manuscripts and facsimiles, Sacred Bones conjures a sound-world that is both familiar and refreshing.
In 2019/20, Sacred Bones appeared at Milton Court, the London International Early Music Festival, and gave several performances as part of the Barbican Centre’s ‘Sound Unbound’ festival. In 2019/20 the group will visit early music festivals across the UK, and begin a recording project.
